oNe PhOtO a DaY JaNuArY 2020

THE PROMPTS

WEDNESDAY 1st HAPPY: There is so much to be happy about- Roasted and fresh Vegetable Risotto and green mango salad with marinated almonds for dinner, a partner who prepared all that, locally sourced Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc, an orange envelope full of descriptions of all the precious moments of 2019 which we will read after dinner, a beautiful place to live and a sense of belonging - to name just a few. Choose happiness every day the choice is ours to make

THURSDAY 2nd BLACK AND WHITE: The white standing Buddha at Wat Phnom Poon where we teach the little monks filtered to create a black and white image

FRIDAY 3rd THIS YEAR I’LL ...... : revisit Japan where I lived for 8 years and a place, which still holds a piece of my heart and wrought the greatest changes in my lifestyle. This is an archive shot taken a decade ago when I was last in Kyoto as leader of a student and staff group tour

SATURDAY 4th GET IN THE PHOTO: I just managed to get in this photo and we weren’t on the Cambodia Bay Cycling Tour of 2020 but we did clock up over 37 kilometres this morning on the National Park Loop around Kep

SUNDAY 5th CONFETTI: In a tropical, summer climate nature’s confetti is bougainvillea on the sand

MONDAY 6th OUTSIDE: Iconic Kep Beach early on a weekday morning, when the weekend crowds and chaos are over for another week, it’s time to be outside

TUESDAY 7th I ENJOY... : teaching these little guys, even if one has no idea where his ankle is and one can’t tell which is left and which is right, at least Duan can be relied upon to get it all straight

WEDNESDAY 8th CHEESY: This had me stumped for the longest time but then I remembered this fabulous vegan meal that was topped with cashew cheese. Not really cheese but definitely cheesy

THURSDAY 9th PAPER: is still the mainstay of the reading, writing and word recognition practice in our classes with the little monks of Kep. Ti is meticulous and methodical in all his studies and really enjoys the paper worksheets which challenge his skills

FRIDAY 10th EYE CANDY: for vegetarians and even better on the palate

SATURDAY 11th YUM: Homemade Double Chocolate Coconut Cake with fresh coconut cream - Happy Birthday sweet Cecile. Decadently yum

SUNDAY 12th IN THE AIR: Prayer flags flying in the air at Chele La and releasing their blessings for all sentient beings. This is an archive shot from our most recent trip to the Kingdom of Bhutan

MONDAY 13th WATER: That perfect pink and purple glow on the water at sunset at the Crab Market. Everyday views one never grows tired of living in Kep

TUESDAY 14th A SLICE: Coffee break today included not just a slice but almost the last slice of this year’s batch of Xmas Cakes. We made them, we love them and ours lasted the longest. Well needed sweet treat today as we prepare for a dumpling party for 12 tonight

WEDNESDAY 15th MY SHADOW: in the gravel in the front yard
PS: I was thrilled this one was selected in the fabulous four for this prompt on Facebook

THURSDAY 16th I AM HERE: in my happy place in the classroom with the little monks of Kep. Gam proudly showing his perfect writing today. He is one of the youngest and brightest and always tries his best. As a left hander he struggled with writing for so long but now he’s got it and loves it too. Thanks to Ian for the photo

FRIDAY 17th GREEN ON PINK: Neither of which are favourites of mine but I do like to eat my greens, so seven green herbs from the garden on pink origami paper. Thank goodness for Ian’s green thumb and my obsession with stationery

SATURDAY 18th MIRROR: A favourite “Om” locket from Bhutan reflected in a little mirror

SATURDAY 19th ICECREAM: A mid-afternoon, decadent refreshment of iced coffee topped with ice-cream and chocolate chips. Luckily, we’ve already been out exploring new territory on the bikes today so we earned the treat

MONDAY 20th WALL: The scarred and decrepit walls of the now abandoned Kep Train Station, stand as a grim testimony to Cambodia’s gruesome past. We went exploring the backroads on our bikes to find this isolated remnant of a bygone era yesterday and were convinced we’d found it when we discovered the ticket window among the ruins and decaying walls

TUESDAY 21st I AM: with my tribe or at least part of them at the Crab market at sunset ..... it’s a regular Tuesday get together thing

WEDNESDAY 22nd COLD: as ice in 32° heat

THURSDAY 23rd BEAUTY: The beauty of nature

FRIDAY 24th TREAT YO SELF: Today we treated ourselves to a picnic at Secret Lake

SUNDAY 26th BRIGHT: The splash of bright colours, which is attached to the bell on my handbag and is my constant reminder of the blessings of Land of the Thunder Dragon

MONDAY 27th I MISS...: I think the place I miss the most is Bhutan- the people, the culture, the spirituality and the mountains. Oh, those mountains... the view from our balcony in 2014

TUESDAY 28th WARM: feelings - our tribe on a big day out adventure in Bokor today. “Let’s all pretend to be rock stars,” said no one but it should be an album cover anyway. Nothing quite feels as good as the warm embrace of friendship .........

WEDNESDAY 29th RAINBOW: umbrellas have recently made an appearance at almost all the new street stalls and guesthouse courtyards in Kep.  This one is at the new drink stand between the beach and the crab market. I like the cheery atmosphere they create

THURSDAY 30th TRIO: A trio of little monks trying to win the word recognition team challenge. “Hands on heads... Touch watermelon ....”

FRIDAY 31st CHEERS: to the 2020 alcohol free challenge- one day a week, one week a month and one month for the year! We got this. January done and dusted
