THE PROMPTS
FRIDAY 1st RED: Feeling like a local because the red Sorya bus to Phnom Penh stopped right opposite our house to pick us up for our weekend getaway in the capital
SATURDAY 2nd ORANGE: This monk was on his alms walk just outside Central Market in Phnom Penh this morning. His burnt orange robes are my favourite shade of my favourite colour
SUNDAY 3rd YELLOW: I don’t actually know what it is but it was a decidedly yellow breakfast option in the market this morning
MONDAY 4th GREEN: The final purchases in Phnom Penh were vegetables from the market at 6:45am. Nothing beats early morning in a great fresh produce market. This is selection of greens we can’t usually buy where we live - there were other purchases but they weren’t green!!
TUESDAY 5th Blue: Two coasters made locally with fragments of blue cloth and used on a daily basis in our house
WEDNESDAY 6th PURPLE: The purple flower in this printed fabric, which was salvaged from the beach clean-up on Koh Pou, is strikingly similar to the print on our coasters (posted yesterday). It was turned into eco-wraps this morning. We are market ready for our fund raising for the little monks of Kep!
THURSDAY 7th PINK: Nothing quite says the tropics like pink Bougainvillea
FRIDAY 8th AQUA: The beautifully painted aqua facade of Amboh, where I purchased my custom-made Espadrilles last weekend
SATURDAY 9th NAVY: One navy motorcycle parked in front of a second-hand goods stall at the 9 Market in Kep today, but it’s not for sale
SUNDAY 10th BROWN: Household objects -still life in shades of brown
MONDAY 11th BLACK: a favourite simple comfortable black dress - not your classic little black dress but definitely my style. Thanks to Ian for taking the shot and making me look a lot more photogenic than I really am
TUESDAY 12th WHITE: The white, standing Buddha at the pagoda
WEDNESDAY 13th GREY: The grey concrete village shrine near the Au Dela Les Rizieres (beyond the rice fields) School which we visited today
THURSDAY 14th DARK: The cooks at the pagoda thought I was mad taking this shot but the outdoor kitchen is a simple shed and this dark, clay, charcoal, fuelled pot and a fire pit are the only means of cooking. It’s a hot, dark space that produces banquets sometimes and simple meals at others but always enough for the entire contingent of monks and construction workers
FRIDAY 15th LIGHT: Early morning light breaking through the clouds and reflecting on the water in Kep Bay
SATURDAY 16th PATTERN: This mandala colouring sheet was completed by Dee, one of the little monks of Kep. At the end of each class when the choice is between toys, puzzles and colouring, he is the only one who always chooses colouring and is very meticulous about it. Now these sheets, which are often given to us when they are finished are the recycled wrapping for our eco-wraps
SUNDAY 17th RAINBOW: These cute, little rainbow sweets are miniature fruit, vegetables and flowers. We purchased them in the Kep Market for some little monks, who can say all but one of the names and delighted in choosing which one and eating them last Thursday after class
MONDAY 18th ONE COLOUR: Hibiscus flowers at the Damnok Toek Organic Farm harvested for drying and packaging as an infusion. We visited the farm on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the market
TUESDAY 19th TWO COLOURS: When special friends come to dinner make mango mousse. Added bonus it’s one of my favourite two colour combinations: orange and white
WEDNESDAY 20th THREE COLOURS: The three colours of the sunset tonight - pale blue, black and orange
Second choice - THREE COLOURS: A rare night for us. I don’t think we have ever ordered takeaway anything before in all our time together. It also could have been my PAD 3 colour choice for the day! Well done Pizza Box Kep. It was delicious
THURSDAY 21st BLACK AND WHITE: is a favourite colour combination for me and I frequently wear it. When I noticed I fit the prompt today, I also happened to spot this art on the wall today. Thanks to Ian for snapping my photo
SATURDAY 23rd COOL: No refrigeration - no worries- the ice man will deliver on this cool, retro motorcycle which, I know by the characters written on the side, just happens to come from Hiroshima, where we used to live. That’s pretty cool and maybe the coolest thing about it. In fact, most people use ice and iceboxes to keep things cool where we live
SUNDAY 24th COLOUR POP: A distinct pop of burnt orange robes and turquoise boat’s prow against the endless blue of the sea and sky. Our excursion with the little monks of Kep to Rabbit Island off to an early, excited start
MONDAY 25th MONOCHROME: Summer calm - the endless shades of blue where sky and ocean meet
TUESDAY 26th FAVE COLOUR: These two latest purchases made while in Phnom Penh recently, are a pretty clear indication of my favourite colour
WEDNESDAY 27th PASTEL: Pale yellow turmeric flower in the garden. I’ve never seen one before but Ian started growing turmeric a few months ago and this pastel beauty appeared. I took it couple of weeks ago as I’m more of a bright and bold gal when it comes to colours and I knew I’d struggle with this prompt
THURSDAY 27th BRIGHT: The bright flash of orange as the sun sinks behind moody black storm clouds tonight
FRIDAY 29th GOLDEN: One of the many rows of golden Buddhas, which line the perimeter of the pagoda where we teach
SATURDAY 30th NEON: lifejackets on the beach this morning. Many Cambodians, who can’t swim wear them and make their children wear them in the water so there is big business in renting and selling them on busy weekends
